Walk to Work

Ipswich residents are being encouraged to make their way to work this Friday (October 6) by foot – not vehicle.

The Ipswich Hospital Foundation is supporting the annual Walk to Work Day (WTWD) by hosting a healthy breakfast in the Ipswich Mall for those taking part.

Executive officer Tom Yates said WTWD was a national event, designed to promote walking and physical activity.  He said community members would be encouraged on October 6 to walk all or part of the way to work.  “We realise some people need to take their vehicles so maybe they can go for a walk at lunchtime,” Mr Yates suggested.

Those who use public transport are encouraged to get off a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way.  From 7am on Friday morning, the Ipswich Hospital Foundation, Ipswich City Council and Llewellyn Motors will be hosting a breakfast for all walkers in the Ipswich Mall.

A light, healthy fare will be provided in exchange for a gold coin donation.
Mr Yates said he would be recruiting participants for the 10,000 Steps a Day Campaign (which begins in mid-October) at the brekky.
